Having served in the Army from 1969 to 1975 I became a Police officer in 1975. As a career police officer I served equally in Uniformed Police posts as well in the Criminal Investigation Department in all ranks up to and including Chief Superintendent. I have a B.A. Degree in Social Science and a M.A. Degree in Psychology specialising in Ecological Psychology, the study of the interdependent relationship between the goal-directed actions of people and the behaviour settings in which these actions occur. From 1997 to 2000 I was the Investigating Officer and Deputy Investigation Officer in a large scale police corruption enquiry. In 2000 I became a member of the Association of Chief Police Officers Counter Corruption Advisor Group. I have been involved in Conferences, Research Projects and Delivery Programmes with regards to police corruption issues in America, Canada and Europe. I retired from the Police in 2002 when I resigned due to ethical issues which occurred at the time as a result of me confronting corruption.
I have been undertaking research at the University of Teesside in relation to 'Society, Community and Organisation Influence on Police Corruption'.
I am a member of the British Society of Criminology. In 2005 I presented a paper at the British Society Criminology Annual Conference on an emerging theoretical concept emanating from my research 'Halo Corruption'.
As a founding member and Director of EthicsinPolicing. Limited I consider it is essential we share the knowledge we gain in life for the benefit of everyone.
