John Middleton-Hope has more than 25 years of police experience in the Province of Alberta. He joined the Calgary Police Service in 1980 and his career is highlighted with tours in patrol operations working in the down town core and east side of the City, two tours in the intelligence section, working as a violent crimes detective, down town Commander in charge of the Electric Avenue entertainment district during its peak and a lengthy assignment to Professional Standards. He was selected as the Officer in Charge of the 2002 G-8 summit security operations responsible for the community resource team working with first nations and activists during that event in southern Alberta.

In August of 2002, Chief Middleton-Hope became the Chief of the Lethbridge Regional Police Service a position he currently holds. During his tenure, Chief Middleton-Hope has overseen substantial strategic growth in the police service including the first community driven regionalization effort that has positioned the Lethbridge Regional Police Service at the forefront of policing in the Province.

John has a diploma in criminology, a bachelor's degree in sociology (with honors) and a master's degree in leadership and development.

He has been recognized with the Chief's Award of Excellence, the Government of Canada Exemplary Service Medal and was the first Canadian police officer to receive the Herman Goldstein Award for Excellence in Problem Solving from the Police Executive Research Forum in Washington, D.C.
