SLED clears Landrum police in

Spartanburg-AP) November 11, 2005 - The attorney general's office says a State Law Enforcement Division investigation has cleared the Landrum Police Department of corruption allegations.
Spokesman Mark Plowden says the attorney general's office has closed the case, following the ten-month investigation. Senior Assistant Attorney General James Bogle Junior says there wasn't enough evidence for criminal charges.

Police Chief Bruce Shelnut and Mayor Bob Briggs say they are happy with the decision, and Shelnut says he's glad the investigation is over.

Briggs says it's good to get official word that there has been nothing wrong.

The investigation began in January after anonymous letters accused Shelnut of fixing tickets, improperly dropping criminal charges and failing to reprimand officers for bad conduct.
