SP, two police officials suspe
BANGALORE: Three senior police officials, including an IPS officer, have been suspended with immediate effect by the Election Commission on charges of violation in enforcing the model code of conduct.
Sources in the Election Commission told The Hindu here on Saturday that those suspended are Revanna, Superintendent of Police, Kolar; Munireddy, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kolar; and Ramesh, circle inspector, Rural Police Station, Kolar.
They have been charged with misconduct and malpractices.
The sources said that these officers had not cared to register first information reports (FIRs) on violations referred to them, and in cases where FIRs had been registered, they had not mentioned the names of the violators.
The authorities have held discussions with top police officials in the State to appoint suitable personnel in the vacancies created.
This is the first stringent action initiated by the Election Commission after the model code of conduct came into force.
