Force finds officer was liable
AN off-duty policeman at the centre of the antisemitic attack on Orthodox Jew Menachem Vorchheimer last October could have prevented the incident, Victoria Police's Office of Police Integrity (OPI) said this week.
In a letter to Vorchheimer, who was abused by a busload of country footballers as he walked to shul on Simchat Torah, OPI acting assistant director John Nolan said Senior Constable Terry Moore, who was driving the bus back from a team outing, "failed to exercise sufficient control and influence over the offending passengers in the minibus".
"Had he done so, the ... Read more

UK: PCSO accused of misconduct over affairs and sex texts
A POLICE community support officer who has worked in the Camborne and
Redruth areas has been charged with six counts of misconduct in public office.
PCSO Peter Bunyan, 38, is alleged to have had two affairs with vulnerable women
he met while at work and alleged to have sent sexualised text messages to a third.
It is also alleged that he illegally gained access to computer records relating to all
three women.
A spokesman for the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said: "The
IPCC is managing an investigation by Devon and Cornwall Constabulary that has
led to PCSO Peter Mark Bunyan being charged with six counts in relation to three
women.
Charged
"The 38-year-old Mr Bunyan is based at Camborne police station and was charged
this week with the six counts in relation to three women."
Bunyan will appear before Truro magistrates on November 3.
The charges allege that he:
between February 3, 2007, and June 30, 2010, while acting as a public officer,
namely a police community support officer, wilfully and without reasonable excuse
or justification misconducted himself by abusing his position to engage in a sexual
relationship with woman A;
between September 4, 2009, and December 31, 2010, while acting as a public
officer, namely a police community support officer, wilfully and without reasonable
excuse or justification misconducted himself by abusing his position in order to
conduct a sexual relationship with woman B;
between December 1, 2010, and January 31, 2011, while acting as a public
officer, namely police community support officer, wilfully and without reasonable
excuse or justification misconducted himself by engaging in sexualised text
messaging while on duty and abusing his position in order to enable him to have
sexual relations with woman C.
Records
Bunyan has also been charged with three offences of misconduct, one in relation
to each of the three women, of accessing their computer records without
"legitimate reason". Those offences are alleged to have been committed between
October, 2009, and January this year.
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said the force was unable to
comment on the case.
PCSO Bunyan was involved last year in obtaining a court order for the temporary
closure and boarding-up of a house in Enys Road, Camborne, which was
described as a "honey pot" for antisocial behaviour.
He was one of the officers who helped run the highly successful Operation
Goodnight in Redruth North during the summer of 2008, where a curfew on all
youngsters under the age of 16 led to a 60 per cent drop in antisocial behaviour
and a major reduction in other crimes.
A qualified football referee, he has also run children's tournaments and
competitions that raised money for charity.
