4 Greenville police resign in
Four Greenville Police officers at the center of a federal investigation into potential officer misconduct have resigned from the department, Police Sgt. Jason Rampey said today.
The officers – whom the department and investigators aren’t identifying -- weren’t fired, Rampey said.
The FBI and the U.S. Justice Department’s civil right division and is currently investigating the police department, U.S. Attorney Walt Wilkins said, though Wilkins declined to discuss the nature and allegations involved in the investigation.
The State Law Enforcement Division is also involved, he said.
The department first disclosed on Sept. 25 that it had identified "potential officer misconduct" and that it was conducting an internal investigation. Wilkins said the federal investigation has been going on for about a month.
In its disclosure last month, the police department said it is “committed to maintaining high standards of ethics and integrity while assuring the rights and fair treatment of everyone.”
