UK: Police in spotlight as 'mi
Lancashire Police upheld 80 misconduct cases in 12 months.
Figures reveal that between October 2007 and September 109 ongoing misconduct allegations relating to 87 cases were finalised, of which 80 were upheld.
In that same period there were 125 new misconduct allegations recorded, generated from 80 misconduct cases.
They consist of 27 allegations over honesty and integrity, seven of politeness and tolerance, 10 over-use of force, 30 of performance of duties, five of lawful orders, 19 over confidentiality, 11 criminal offences, one over property and 15 relating to general conduct.
Allegations over honesty and integrity rose by more than a third, while concerns over performance of duties rose by more than three quarters.
There were eight more allegations than in the previous year.
Det Chief Insp Andy Gilbert from Lancashire Constabulary's Professional Standards Department, said: "If any employee's individual conduct is found to have fallen well short of the high professional standards of behaviour expected then the constabulary will take a robust stance to investigating each case on its merits.
"Sanctions may range between management advice to written warnings and in a small number of cases, appearances at a misconduct hearing.
"It is recognised that the behaviour of one employee can have the potential to reduce the confidence of the public we serve, so we are determined to learn the lessons from any investigations to build upon and further improve the standards and quality of our policing service."
Police said a single case recorded in April generated 22 separate allegations, nine of honesty and integrity and 13 regarding performance of duties against 10 individual officers.
Officers also said the majority of the confidentiality allegations relate to the alleged unauthorised access to force IT systems and disclosure of the information to a third party.
