NHRC concerned over Nepalgunj

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has expressed concern over the revolt staged by junior police officials in Nepalgunj.

Issuing a statement on Sunday, the rights watchdog urged the government to probe the revolt at the riot control battalion of the Nepal Police in Nepalgunj and see to the complaints of exploitation of junior officials and corruption within the police agency.

The NHRC said it has written a letter to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) suggesting that the government take steps towards preventing human rights violations and problems in maintaining law and order in the wake of such incidents.

The commission also cautioned against using excessive force to control the situation inside the Nepalgunj police battalion and also asked the government to find legal ways to maintain chain of command in the police force.
