Former Oregon police officer c

A former Dallas police officer has been convicted of theft and official misconduct resulting from charges that he mishandled evidence during an arrest in 2005.

Scott Roth pleaded guilty to official misconduct and no contest to theft after he was accused of failing to write a report that he had seized marijuana and nearly $1,300 in cash from a Dallas home .

The 33-year-old Roth was sentenced to probation and two weekends in jail by a Polk County judge.

Roth blamed financial difficulties and job stress but apologized. He plans to voluntarily give up his state credentials as a law enforcement officer.
