Police Union takes legal actio

The Victorian Police Association Secretary Paul Mullett has gone to court to try to have his suspension from the police force overturned.

During hearings at the Office of Police Integrity in November, Mr Mullett denied allegations that he told a police officer he was the subject of a murder investigation.

The Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon used the misconduct allegations to suspend Mr Mullett as a Senior Sergeant, effectively limiting his powers as the union boss with the ban preventing him from entering police stations.

The V.P.A has now issued a writ, claiming the suspension breached the freedom of association provisions of the Workplace Relations Act.

A spokeswoman for Ms Nixon says the suspension had nothing to do with Mr Mullett's union position.

A court hearing will begin next year.
