McBride calls for stricter police screening

Robert McBride, the Ekhurhuleni metro police chief, strict screening of police was important in eliminating corruption in the service.

He was speaking at a conference in Pretoria that focuses on combatting organised crime.

"In our quest to deal with joblessness… we should not be tempted to use the police services or the security industry services as an employment agency... You need specific types of people in those industries - people of the right calibre and integrity. We should have stricter selection and recruitment methods," said McBride.
