Author speaks about corruption

HIGHLAND -- The Coalition Against Corruption in Lake County launched an initiative this morning that has author and former drug cop Alex Richardson making his first public appearance in Lake County since his arrest and conviction of police corruption while serving on the Lake County Drug Task Force.

Richardson appeared at Borders to talk about his book, Lines Crossed, in which he recounts corruption within the Lake County undercover drug unit. He served 57 months in federal prison on police corruption charges.

During his sentencing, Richardson testified that the lack of supervision made it easy for him and other task force officers to commit crimes. Richardson testified he saw other officers steal property from drug dealers, and when a small number of officers complained about it, they were ostracized by the others until they also became crooked cops.

For more on the story, see Thursday's Lake County editions of The Times.
