Cop case witness busted
A Toronto man whose "improper" conviction for heroin trafficking helped prompt the largest police corruption probe in Canada has again been charged with the same offence.

Paducah police upset over judi

PADUCAH - A lawyer running for a district court judgeship has apologized for joking in court that his campaign jingle would be "kill a cop, shoot a cop, vote for Will Kautz."

"It is clear I should not have said what I said," Kautz said Thursday. "I certainly regret making the comments. I have a great deal of respect for police officers and the job they do putting their lives on the line every day."

Paducah police officers didn't see any humor in the comments he made in court last week and were considering taking formal action against Kautz. One option is to file a complaint with the Kentucky Bar Association accusing Kautz of violating the code of ethics for attorneys.

Kautz said he would contact the FOP and offer a formal apology.

Kautz made the remarks during an April 13 hearing in McCracken County District Court. He was representing a defendant whose misdemeanor charge of possession of less than 8 ounces of marijuana had been elevated to a charge of having more than 8 ounces, which is a felony. In referring to the increase in quantity in a comment to Judge Donna Dixon, Kautz said that either police "reweighed it" or "added to it." He immediately stressed that he was being facetious.

Dixon said police wouldn't be happy with his comment, and Kautz responded that police "will love my rap song" campaign jingle that included "shoot a cop, kill a cop, vote for Kautz." He immediately added that "I'm obviously kidding."
