Members of the New South Wales anti-terrorism group have been given some heavy reading to do to help ward off corruption risks.

Officer probed on affair claim

THE police internal affairs office is investigating an allegation that a sex crimes detective may have committed a serious misjudgment by having a relationship with a rape complainant.
The Victoria Police ethical standards department has been handed the file after a nine-month investigation by the police corruption watchdog, the Office of Police Integrity.
The investigation began last May after the woman said police were negligent in their handling of her rape claim, which she made in December 1998.

It is believed the allegation is that the detective began an intimate relationship with the woman four months into the investigation. No charges were ultimately laid because of a lack of evidence.

The OPI dismissed the woman's claims that the inquiry was negligent.

A Victoria Police spokesman confirmed yesterday that the ethical standards department was investigating an alleged relationship between the detective and the woman.

"ESD are conducting an investigation, and it would be inappropriate to comment at this time," spokesman Sgt David Spencer said.
