IGP takes action against 1,275

RAWALPINDI: Strict disciplinary action has been taken against 1,275 police officers during the last eight months. This was disclosed in a meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Ziaul Hassan Khan, the inspector general of police (IGP), Punjab. Additional IGPs and senior police officials also attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the performance of Inspection and Vigilance (I&V) system introduced by the IGP for the internal accountability of the department. The meeting said that the I&V teams paid surprise visits to around 200 police stations, patrol posts, units and offices and submitted their reports to the IGP about the irregularities in the department including illegal confinement, torture, registration of fake cases, non-registration and defective investigation.

Following the directives of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the Punjab chief minister, the jurisdiction of I&V would be extended, the IG added.
