MUMBAI: A local court on Wednesday adjourned the anticipatory bail application of former Mumbai police commissioner Shrikant Bapat till April 3 and also granted him interim protection from arrest till then in the 1999 Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination answer paper case.

Bapat, the former MPSC chairman and a retired IPS officer, had applied for anticipatory bail to the special anti-corruption court here on March 27, fearing arrest in the case.

Earlier, on March 22, ACP Sudhakar Pujari of Anti-Corruption Bureau, the investigating officer in MPSC case, had summoned Bapat to record his statement in the matter.

He was to appear before ACB on March 27, but instead he approached the court seeking anticipatory bail. The application was to be heard today but since Bapat's lawyer sought more time, the hearing was adjourned till April 3.
