Two Los Angeles police officers filed a lawsuit against the city Monday, alleging that the Police Department transferred them from gang-enforcement efforts in the troubled Jordan Downs housing project after gang members and their supporters made many unsustained complaints about them.

Girl, 14, killed after police
A car crashed while being chased by police west of Montreal early Tuesday morning, killing a 14-year-old girl who was a passenger in the vehicle, according to the Sûreté du Québec.
Three other people in the car were injured, police say. The 17-year-old driver faces nine charges.
The incident began as a routine traffic stop in Deux-Montagnes, Que., just after midnight.
When local police officers signalled for the car to pull over, its driver sped away, according to Manon Gaignard of the Sûreté du Québec, which is investigating the incident.
Police chased the driver for several kilometres. The fleeing car then smashed into a truck parked at a gas station.
Kim De Muylder, 14, was killed instantly.
One of the three other people in the car remains in hospital, police said.
The police officer involved in the chase was taken to hospital suffering from shock, said Gaignard.
Accident investigators spent the morning at the scene, trying to piece together what happened.
