Texas Police Officer Charged In Corruption, Drug Case

Veteran Houston police officer Leslie Aikens, 46, was arrested as he finished his shift Wednesday on charges of extortion and aiding and abetting with intent to distribute cocaine.

He’s accused of accepting bribes in a drug trafficking and corruption case.

Aikens, who's been a Houston officer for 19 years, is accused of accepting $2,000 to provide protection in March for a vehicle believed to be hauling 15 pounds of cocaine.

A sealed indictment was returned June 22.

It was unsealed Wednesday.

Aikens appeared before a federal magistrate, who set bond at $50,000.

Houston police Chief Charles McClelland said Aikens has been suspended pending an internal affairs investigation.
