FIRE ISLAND COPS SUE 'SEX' CHI
Five former Fire Island cops say they were fired for complaining that their station house was run like a frat house - with piņa coladas flowing freely and their horny chief engaging in "sexual escapades" on duty.
Their wrongful-termination lawsuit, filed in Brooklyn federal court, reads like a scene from the movie "Porky's." The fired officers claim that acting Chief George Hesse forced them to chauffeur him to sex romps, had "rocket-fuel" piņa coladas delivered from a local bar on Sunday nights, and let cops under his command spend whole shifts drinking away at watering holes. Officers sorry for 'stupid' nu
The Queensland Police Union (QPU) says the officers being questioned over a nude buck's party escapade are sorry for their actions.
It is believed up to five officers were in a police bus at Capalaba on Brisbane's bayside on Sunday afternoon, when two of them got off and ran around it naked.
The Police Ethical Standards Command Unit is investigating.
Four of the five officers that were on the bus are members of the Special Emergency Response Team.
QPU spokesman Ian Leavers says the men should not be sacked.
"The officers involved concede their actions were stupid, embarrassing and were unacceptable and they apologise to their colleagues, the people of Queensland," he said.
"But these are highly trained people and we've got to be careful not to have an overreaction and calling for their sacking is absolutely over the top."
Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson says four of the five policemen who were nude on board the bus are members of the Special Emergency Response Team.
Commissioner Atkinson says there is no doubt the incident was alcohol-fuelled and the behaviour is inexcusable.
"Without community confidence, a police department in a democracy is ineffective," he said.
He says no decision has yet been made about how the officers will be dealt with.
"There's no excuse for this," he said.
"I can't say to you this is explainable or excusable, because it's not.
"There are many aspects to this and one of the very unfortunate aspects is the investment that the Queensland community puts into officers who do this work."
The incident comes after the public release of a report on police misconduct in July and two officers being stood down earlier this month.
Commissioner Atkinson says it has been a nightmare for the Queensland Police Service recently.
"This has been the worst couple of months for us that I can recall for many years, but these things aren't a constant," he said.
"You don't have a situation in any given year where every month one thing goes wrong - it ebbs and flows.
"This is a bad time - we'll get through this, we're a good police department."
Acting Premier Paul Lucas says any police officers who want to strip off should do so in private.
"Obviously we would prefer if people didn't run around police cars in the nude," he said.
"My suggestion to them is if you want to run around in the nude, do it in your own backyard."
