UK: Officer faces misconduct c

A Lancashire police sergeant has been suspended from duty by the force and is to appear before magistrates accused of misconduct in public office.

It follows an investigation managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Sgt James Boothby, 48, an accident investigator and vehicle recovery liaison officer, will appear before Liverpool magistrates on 29 June.

The IPCC said it referred to a contract awarded while he was in his post.

It said the summons related to an investigation into how a vehicle sales and disposal contract was awarded when Sgt Boothby was working in his role as a vehicle recovery liaison officer for Lancashire Constabulary.

A file was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service which decided it was appropriate for the officer to be summonsed to appear at court, the IPCC said.

Lancashire Police confirmed the officer had been suspended from duty pending the court appearance.
