District police officer fired

SAN ANTONIO -- A female school district cop for Southwest Independent School District is out of a job and facing criminal charges. An investigation by the Texas Rangers says she had an improper relationship with a student.
The News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooters just got a hold of a letter sent to officer Tracy Castillo, telling her she was fired.

The letter said she was out of a job as of May 1, 2009. That’s when Southwest I.S.D. administrators were given the final outcome of an investigation based on Southwest High School students coming forward in February and cell phone records.

She was put on paid administrative leave at that time while the Texas Rangers investigated the allegations. Rangers tell News 4 WOAI that investigation is now finished and they've turned their case over to the Bexar County District Attorney's office.

News 4 WOAI was able to confirm the Ranger's investigation did find she had sexual contact with a student.

The District Attorney’s office now has the case, with a charge of improper relationship between educator and student.

“Although the law says, educator and student, it really applies to any employee of a school or school district,” explained Cliff Herberg, Bexar County Assistant District Attorney. “And so, in this case, there's an allegation of an inappropriate sexual relationship between the police officer, employee, and a student."

We tried reaching Castillo and her attorney to get their side of the story. But as of 6 p.m on Wednesday, we haven’t gotten a call back. The former school district police officer is facing a second degree felony. If found guilty, she faces as much as 20 years in prison or as little as probation.
