Warren's Police Chief in Hot W
Police Chief John Mandopoulos says he believes his days as the city's top cop may soon be over.
Just recently, the Chief was the subject of a pre-disciplinary hearing after it was learned he had ordered the city's human resource director to be searched when he came to the police department for a meeting last November.
Mandopoulos, who has been with the department for 36 years, says when the safety-service director told him to resign or face possible termination, he was shocked. "Yes, I really was. I expected better. I thought these guys had honor, but there is no honor. There is no code. There is no integrity," Mandopoulos said.
Meanwhile, Safety-Service Director Doug Franklin confirmed he did have a private meeting with the Chief but his details of that meeting differ. "I told him I was struggling with the discipline and I wanted to give him the opportunity to resign and no ultimatum was given," Franklin said.
The Chief says he is not sure what he will do but says with the recent layoffs of 20 officers, running the department has not been easy and he believes experienced leadership is necessary. "I was kinda hoping to see my guys through the tough times. I never ran away from a fight," the Chief said.
Franklin also would not say what type of discipline he is considering. He said he is still working on the disciplinary letter now and expects to have it issued sometime Friday.
