Mass. State Police probe use o

BOSTON—A state police spokesman says 10 former and current troopers are under investigation following a department audit into the use of gas credit cards.

Spokesman David Procopio tells the Boston Herald the department investigated the use of 2,150 gas cards to ensure they were being used appropriately. He says 10 warranted a closer look.

Two troopers have been granted a "general retirement" pending the outcome of the investigation. He did not release the two troopers' names because no disciplinary action had been taken against them.

State Police commander Col. Mark Delaney says the audit began in July as a way to control costs. He says troopers found to have violated the rules regarding the use of gas cards face disciplinary action.
