Sting operation allegedly show
Officials suspended 11 police officers in New Delhi after a hidden camera caught them apparently taking bribes from illegal liquor manufacturers, a police spokesman said Wednesday.

The police officers' suspension comes amid an intense debate in India over the role of sting operations — which have multiplied dramatically as media groups battle for ratings — in fighting entrenched corruption.

Uganda: Sembabule police boss

The Sembabule District Police boss who is accused of soliciting a bribe of Shs1.5 million was yesterday sent to Luzira Prison after being charged with corruption.

Mr George Patrick Kandimba, 29, who denied the charges was remanded by the outgoing Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Margaret Tibulya.
She said her court has no jurisdiction to bail the accused. She advised him to apply for bail in the High Court.

Ms Tibulya ordered the accused to re- appear in the same court on October 31 for the mention of the case.

Mr Kandimba is facing two counts of corruptly soliciting a bribe and receiving a bribe.
Court heard that the police commander allegedly the solicited a bribe from Mr Yosam Sabiiti as an inducement to arrest one John Muganda Kangambirwe, who was wanted for allegedly murdering Ernest Bwana.

Court heard that Mr Kandimba informed the complainant (Mr Sabiiti) that the suspect was hiding in Kampala and that he could only trace and arrest him after payment.

Prosecution led by Ms Bernadette Nalule alleges that Mr Kandimba was arrested on October 8, at Ring Road Lubiri in Rubaga Division as he was receiving Shs500, 000 from Mr Moses Agaba.
