GALVESTON, Texas -- Serious assault allegations were lodged against Galveston police officers at a town hall meeting on Tuesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Community activist Quannel X said there is a long history of police brutality in the island city. Five cases have been reported in the last six months.

Altoona PD Officer Had Sex Wit

An Altoona Police officer has been charged with having sex with a teenaged girl from the state of Indiana.

State Police at Hollidaysburg arrested 49-year-old Herrick �Rick� Johnson Tuesday. According to a police affidavit, Johnson and the 16-year-old girl began communicating after meeting through a police-related Web Site in December of last year. Police say the girl eventually began to consider Johnson her father figure, but then the relationship turned sexual.

Court papers say the teenager made at lease three visits to Altoona, the last being on July 28th. Johnson has admitted to having sex with the teen on at least three occasions, including once at a hotel in Ohio and twice at Johnson�s 25th Avenue home in Altoona.

Officials were tipped off to the case after friends of the teenaged girl uncovered disturbing text messages she had sent Johnson from their cell phones. They contacted police in Indiana. State Police detectives searched Johnson�s home last Thursday.

Johnson is charged with one felony count of endangering the welfare of a child, and one misdemeanor count of corruption of minors. Johnson was arraigned and then released on $20-thousand bail. He has been placed on unpaid administrative leave from the Altoona Police Department.
