UK: Police vehicle misuse prob

Five police officers will face disciplinary hearings over claims they misused official vehicles while on duty it has been confirmed.
It follows allegations the officers from the Gwent force used police vehicles to go on trips to the seaside.

Gwent Police referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) which said it was due to hold misconduct hearings.

The force said it would not be appropriate to comment on the matter.

The force referred the matter to the IPCC after starting an internal investigation following the claims.

A spokesman for the IPCC said: "The Independent Police Complaints Commission can confirm that five officers investigated by the IPCC for allegations of misuse of police vehicles will attend a misconduct hearing on February 25 to 29.

"The misconduct hearing process is a matter for Gwent Police and it would not be appropriate for the IPCC to comment further until after this process has concluded."

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said it would be inappropriate to comment at this time.
