Ex-officers suing city
LUMBERTON - Two former Lumberton police officers have sued the city, saying they were wrongfully fired from their jobs two years ago.
Russell Joseph Conway and Jerry Earl Kinlaw have filed separate suits, but each paints the claimants as whistler blowers who were fired after revealing problems within the Police Department. Kinlaw's suit alleged a cover up of corruption in the Police Department.

Police officers in court
A FORMER detective and a serious organised crimes officer have appeared in court charged with misconduct in public office.
Ex Northumbria Police detective constable John Jones, 47, and officer Colin Maddison, 47, were both arrested after information came to light during the investigation into the murder of David 'Noddy' Rice.
However, it is believed the charges have nothing to do with the murder.
Jones, who resigned from his post last summer, was first to appear at Newcastle Crown Court today.
He faces three charges of misconduct in public office, but no further details were given.
During a separate hearing Maddison faced one charge of misconduct in public office.
Jones and Maddison both spoke only to confirm their names during the short preliminary hearings.
Both cases, which are not connected to each other, were adjourned and both men were granted bail.
Jones will be back before the court on March 3.
Maddison next appear on March 14.
Mr Rice, a father-of seven, of St. Vincent Street, South Shields, was shot and killed as he sat in his car at Marsden Lea in May 2006.
A hunt is still underway for the gunman, but others involved in the killing have since been jailed.
