Corruption-related complaints about the SA Police Service surged dramatically after its Anti-Corruption Unit was shut down in 2002, according to research by the Institute for Security Studies.

Former Prescott police officer
A former Prescott police officer has been charged with misconduct becoming a police officer by falsifying a police report.
Brad Woletz, 37, River Falls, has been accused of the crime stemming from an incident this past March which led to his termination in May from the Prescott Police Department.
His first court appearance on the charge will be 10 a.m. Jan. 7, 2008. If found guilty, the maximum penalties for the Class I felony is $10,000 dollar fine or 42 months in prison or both.
This case started on March 11, according to the criminal complaint when Michael Condon, Sr., was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct. Condon’s wife, Cheri, sought protection from him after the arrest and as a result, signed a 72-hour no contact order.
On March 13, Cheri told Prescott Police, she received word that Michael would be coming to their residence later that day to retrieve some personal belongings and that a police officer, Woletz, would be there to make sure things don’t get out of hand.
When Woletz arrived at the residence, Cheri told him about the no contact order and that she was told by other Prescott Police officers that Michel couldn’t violate the order unless she waived it, which she refused to do.
