2000 complaints over police
Complaints to the independent police watchdog have increased to more than 2000 in the past year - thought to be the highest number in its 20-year history - but they are being handled more quickly.


The Independent Police Conduct Authority annual report shows it accepted 1690 complaints for investigation in the past year. But it sped up the time taken to investigate complaints, reducing the number of cases more than 12 months old by 87 per cent in the year.

Former cop pleads guilty to of

A former part-time police officer in the Tuxedo Park Village Police Department Thursday pled guilty to the misdemeanor charge of official misconduct.
John Reilly, 51, of New Windsor, admitted n Orange County Court that from January 2005 to May 2006, while serving as a police officer in Tuxedo Park, he received payment for hours that he claimed he worked, but actually did not.

When sentenced next month, he faces 60 days in the Orange County Jail and probation, said District Attorney Frank Phillips. He could receive up to one year in jail.

Recently, former Tuxedo Park Police Chief Robert Culhane pled guilty to taking over $1,000 worth of computer equipment purchased by the PBA. He was sentenced to a conditional discharge.
