Bury policemen face misconduct

TWO police sergeants from Bury St Edmunds have been accused of misconduct after a complaint from a man held in custody.

Sgt Nigel Mead and Sgt Mark Turner have been summonsed to appear before Norwich Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, October 24, accused of misconduct in a public office.
The complaint was made after a 36-year-old man from Bury was arrested on suspicion of theft and held in custody on November 14, 2006.
The man, who has not been named, was transferred to hospital after his detention and given medical treatment.
An investigation launched in to the incident by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) resulted in legal action being taken against the two officers.
The men, who have not been suspended, have been moved to non-operational duties.
