Calumet City cops charged with

(CALUMET CITY) Two south suburban police officers were indicted Tuesday on charges of official misconduct for a July incident in which they allegedly beat two juveniles at a south suburban police department.

Calumet City police officers Steven Lundy and Keith Paprocki are charged with battery and felony official misconduct after allegedly detaining two juveniles illeally in July at the Calumet City police station, according to a release from Calumet City police.

Information about the exact nature of the allegations was not available. The pair will be arraigned at 9 a.m. Oct. 16 at the Markham courthouse, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton, who had no further details.

"I am deeply disappointed by this development," Chief Russel Larson said in a statement. "I have filed charges seeking the termination of these officers' employment ... and requested that they be suspended without pay."

The city Police and Fire Commission will conduct a preliminary hearing on the chief's request on Friday, according to the release. The hearing will be conducted at 5 p.m. at the Sandridge Community & Fitness Center, 600 Oglesby.

The officers remain part of the police department as of Wednesday, Calumet City police Sgt. Pam Cap said.
