Detective faces 25 years in ja
ONE of Victoria's top drug detectives faces up to 25 years in jail after he was convicted yesterday of trafficking commercial quantities of chemicals to the underworld.
Detective Senior Sergeant Wayne Strawhorn was found to have supplied chemicals six years ago to the Moran drug clan, which has since been wiped out in Melbourne's gangland war.
His conviction is the biggest scalp for the anti-corruption Ceja taskforce, which uncovered widespread corruption in the drug squad, disbanded by Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon five years ago.

Indictments again sought in Je
Prosecutors will bring the results of their yearlong investigation of the Jefferson Police Department to the Jackson County grand jury when its new term starts next week.
Jefferson City Manager John Ward received a subpoena ordering him to testify Tuesday about the possible misconduct inside the Jefferson Police Department, and other subpoenas have been issued.
Prosecutors had planned to seek indictments against four men in December - former officers Mario Johnson, Lt. John Ward Jr., Capt. Dennis Thomas and ex-Chief Darren Glenn. Instead, the matter was delayed indefinitely because new evidence surfaced in the early part of the month.
Richard Malone, executive director of the Georgia Prosecuting Attorneys' Council, is acting as a special prosecutor.
The case has moved slowly because another corruption case took investigators' time and attention - allegations that former Piedmont Judicial Circuit district attorney Tim Madison had misappropriated funds.
"A lot of it actually had to do with the DA up there," Malone said. "In the middle of this case, just about the time we were preparing to bring the (Jefferson police) case before the grand jury, it became apparent that there were some allegations of misconduct in the DA's office. And we said, 'OK maybe we need to step back and take another look at this.' "
Madison was indicted in August on several counts of felony theft by taking and fraud, connected to money he allegedly stole from Banks County.
Malone would not give details about how Madison was connected to the new evidence that surfaced in the police department case or if he may face additional charges.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation began to investigate the police force in August 2005, looking for potential misconduct within the 25-man department.
The scrutiny came after Johnson was accused of taking department gasoline for personal use in spring 2005. Johnson resigned but later was cleared by an internal investigation conducted by the police department.
Over the next year, GBI agents interviewed most of the city's police officers.
The city fired Glenn in June 2006. He could face charges that include threatening officers if they talked to investigators, according to a draft copy of the indictment obtained by the Athens Banner-Herald in December.
At that time, Malone intended to seek a total of 40 charges against the four men - including 29 counts against the former police chief. A phone call to Glenn's attorney Michael Bowers was not returned at press time.
