South Africa: Cop faces severa

A POLICE inspector from the Kensington police station appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday in two separate cases, and was remanded pending a bail application on July 9.

In both cases, Inspector Ismail Kamaldien, 40, appeared before magistrate Mogamad Esau.

In the first case, he faces charges of possession of stolen property, theft, assault and crimen injuria.

His attorney, Zaheer Ismail, told the court the theft charge related to two slabs of flake chocolate, while the possession of stolen property concerned police items.

In the second case, he appeared with David Robert Stemmet, 36, a police clerk also based at Kensington.

In this case, both are charged with theft, but the charge sheet provided no details.

Kamaldien was arrested on June 28 and Stemmet on June 30. Kamaldien is being held at the Langa police cells while Stemmet is out on warning.
