Civilian review urged in Vanco
VANCOUVER — A Vancouver Police Department investigation of an incident, in which a man who attacked officers with a chain was shot dead on a busy city street, is going to be subject to an extra level of police scrutiny.

Casper police chief reprimande

Casper Police Chief Tom Pagel will be reprimanded for using department letterhead on a letter endorsing an applicant for Wyoming's vacant U.S. Senate seat, a city official said.

City Manager Tom Forslund said Monday it was a violation of the city's ethics policy to use city letterhead for political purposes.

"The city government does not involved itself into partisan politics," Forslund said.

On June 12, Pagel wrote a letter on police department letterhead endorsing state Rep. Colin Simpson, R-Cody, for the Senate seat held by the late Sen. Craig Thomas.

Pagel said it was an "inadvertent error" on his part.

"I made a mistake," Pagel said Monday. "It represents me as chief of police. I was wrong on that."

No public money was spent on mailing the letter, he said.

Forslund said he could not elaborate on what the reprimand would involved because it was a personnel matter.
