Fraud squad detective pleads g

A suspended Sydney fraud squad detective has been placed on a good behaviour bond and fined after pleading guilty to fraud.

A police officer for 18 years, Con Kostakidis, was charged after an investigation by the Police Integrity Commission

The 45-year-old Detective Sergeant made a false statement to the Commonwealth Bank in March last year to help his colleague get a home loan.

He wrote a letter falsely claiming to employ the man's wife at his cafe.

The Downing Centre Local Court heard he did not use his position in the police force to perpetrate the fraud.

He faced a maximum penalty of five years in jail.

Taking into account his early guilty plea, the Magistrate placed him on a two-year good behaviour bond and fined him $1,500.

The court was told Kostakidis has been suspended without pay and there is no doubt he will lose his job.
