The City Council's police and fire committee today unanimously approved the appointment of a California lawyer to head the newly independent agency that oversees investigations of police misconduct.
Ilana Rosenzweig, the new appointee, spent the past six years as an attorney for the board that oversees misconduct by Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

AP police official's residence
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducted raids at the residence of a senior police official charged with possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income and for misconduct.
The ACB personnel under supervision of Joint Director Srinivas Reddy conducted raids at the residence of Visakhapatnam (Rural) Superintendent of Police J G Murali.
Murali is facing six charges, including possessing disproportionate assets, misconduct and alleged nexus with realtors, ACB sources said.
The ACB officials also conducted simultaneous searches at the residences of Murali's relatives at Hyderabad and Bangalore.
In the raid at Visakhapatnam, the officials so far recovered about 25 tolas of gold jewellery and a cash of Rs one lakh. The searches are still on, they added.
