Two cops in the dock on corrup

Two police officers were charged with corruption on Friday. One was accused of accepting sexual favours to warn massage parlours of impending raids, the other of taking money to warn cigarette smugglers of Coast Guard presence.
.
National Serviceman Joseph Yeo Hao Quan, 21, faces three charges of accepting bribes in the form of sexual favours from two Chinese nationals.
.
Yeo, a corporal attached to the Complaint Management Unit at the Central Police Division Headquarters, allegedly had sex with Yu Jin Hua twice between November and December 2005 at the Jalan Sultan Textile Centre. In return, he would inform her of raids on her parlour at People's Park Centre.
.
In February last year, he had sex with another Chinese national, Dai Suhong, at a budget hotel in Bencoolen Street, for tipping her off about police operations concerning her parlour at Fortune Centre.
.
If found guilty, Yeo faces a fine of up to $100,000 and a maximum five-year jail term.
.
In a separate case, Mohamad Hanafi Abdol Hamid, a senior staff sergeant attached to the intelligence branch of the Police Coast Guard, is accused of three counts of accepting bribes and one count of obstructing the arrest of a cigarette smuggler.
.
Mohamad Hanafi allegedly received a total of $900 from cigarette smuggler Shaiful Hizam Junit between September and November 2005. In return, the officer would tip Shaiful of the Coast Guard's movements in Singapore waters so as to facilitate the smuggler's illegal operations.
.
Mohamad Hanafi was also said to have intentionally obstructed the arrest of Shaiful on Dec 8, 2005, by asking another Coast Guard officer to stop a police craft from chasing Shaiful while he was smuggling a large consignment of cigarettes into Singapore. Shaiful has since been sentenced to 52 months in jail.
.
The officer, who also faces two charges of possession of obscene films, could be jailed for up to five years and fined up to $100,000 for accepting bribes.
.
For stopping the arrest, he faces a jail term of up to two years, and for possessing obscene films, he could be fined up to $10,000 and jailed up to a year.
.
Both Yeo and Mohamad Hanafi will appear in court on May 11. Ansley Ng
