New video released Thursday shows a man surrendering only to be beaten by Minneapolis Police—the second video of alleged police brutality in a month.

The last video of alleged police misconduct released two weeks ago led Minneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan to order all of his 800 officers to watch a video in which six officers punched and kicked Derryl Jenkins, 42, during a traffic stop.

In this new video—which is now at the center of a lawsuit and internal affairs investigation—a veteran Minneapolis officer is seen kicking a man suspected of breaking into cars in a downtown p... Read more

Sikkim constable sent to 5-day

Nari Lepcha, the constable of Sikkim police battalion arrested by Delhi Police yesterday, was presented in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjeev Jindal today. He has been sent to five-day police custody for further investigation, said police officials.

Police officials said that they wanted to interrogate Lepcha further to ascertain the scene of the crime.

“Although Lepcha has told us a lot, we still want to reconstruct the chain of events to see if he is telling us the complete truth,” said a senior police official.

Police officials are suspecting that Lepcha called them on phone some time after he committed the murders. They want to find out what he did during this time.

Meanwhile, the post mortem of all the five bodies have been conducted at the Maulana Azad Medical College. Police officials said the bodies would be sent back to the families of the victims in Sikkim.

The accused, Lepcha, has alleged that he shot his five colleagues because they tried to sodomise him.

According to the police, after the murders, Nari Lepcha called the police from his mobile and tried to mislead them, accusing another Sikkim police constable of the murders. After extensive questioning, he reportedly admitted to committing the crime himself.

According to the police, Lepcha called them around 4.50 am yesterday, alleging that gunshots had been heard at the Dena Bank branch, opposite Golcha Cinema in Daryaganj.

A police party reached the spot and found bodies of Lance Naik Kumar Basnett and Constables Bishal Tiwari, Laxman Subba, Karma Bhutia and Santabir Tamang on the second floor of the building that functions as the bank's treasury.

The bodies bore bullet marks as well as wounds inflicted by an axe. The police arrested Nari Lepcha, one of the jawans on duty, who survived with a minor injury on his shoulder.

Lepcha tried to send the police on a wild goose chase when he suggested another jawan had committed the murders.

However, on detailed questioning, Lepcha reportedly accepted that he and others were on duty when Kumar Basnett and Laxman Subba visited them.

"The situation took a violent turn when some of Lepcha's colleagues, including Bishal Tiwari, tried to sodomise him.

In fury, Lepcha picked up his SLR and fired at them. Laxman Subba tried to retaliate with an axe, but Lepcha managed to snatch it away and shot Subba dead too," Lepcha reportedly told police.
