Police inaction to blame for N
New Delhi, Jan. 2 (PTI): Holding police inaction responsible for the abuse and killing of children in Noida, the National Commission for Women (NCW) today wrote a letter to UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav seeking an action-taken report in the matter.
The NCW, which had investigated the case of missing children in Nithari village in Noida in September 2005, had at that time asked the UP government to take immediate action in the matter.
"Had police seriously taken cognizance of the case after our report on the same, so many deaths could have been averted," NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas told PTI.
While Vyas has written to Yadav on the issue, the Commission has also served notices to the Chief Secretary and DGP of the state asking for a detailed inquiry into the case.
The NCW, she said, after receiving reports from the parents of six girls around the age of five to 13 in 2005 that their daughters had gone missing, had set up a one-member committee to look into the matter.
"The SSP assured us of quick action in the matter. He said all the police stations in the area would be alerted and police teams would be sent to Meerut and Bihar," she said.
Vyas expressed her anguish over the killings and said such a repulsive crime could have been avoided had the officials acted prudently and taken timely steps.
"It is sad that on New Year the country got such sad news," she said.
