APD officer indicted by Grand
Austin Police Department Detective Andrew Perkel was indicted by a Travis County Grand Jury on Wednesday, December 27th, on one count of Attempted Sexual Assault, a third-degree felony, one count of Public Lewdness, a class A misdemeanor and one count of Indecent Exposure, a class B misdemeanor.
The indictments are from an off-duty incident that occurred on September 15, 2006. Perkel has been with APD for 14 years. He has been placed on temporary suspension without pay from the Austin Police Department pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings and Internal Affairs investigation.
The Austin Police Department’s Integrity Crimes Unit investigated this incident. When the investigation was completed the Integrity Crimes Unit forwarded the case to the Travis County District Attorney’s Office for presentation to the Grand Jury.
