Court directs police to give p
NEW DELHI: Delhi High Court on Thursday asked Delhi police to handover the documents relating to the illegal tapping of phone of a businessman, who had been in contact with former special cell Acp Rajbir Singh to the CBI.
In an application the CBI said it had also seized the machine, which was used to record the conversation of Singh and businessman Yudhistir Kumar relating to some alleged land deal.
The court had asked the CBI to register an FIR and investigate the case of tapping of phone of businessman Yudhistir Kumar terming him as a drug dealer by the police.
The court had earlier asked the authorities to seal the file in which the Delhi police had sought the permission from the Union home ministry to tap the phone of Kumar.
In a petition, Kumar alleged that the Delhi police had tapped his phone and recorded the talks between him and former Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajbir Singh.
However, Union home secretary in an affidavit said that he had permitted Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (narcotics) D L Kashyap to tap the phone of Yusuf Khan, who is alleged to be a drug dealer.
While seeking permission to tap the phone, the Delhi police had mentioned the phone number of Yudhistir Kumar as that of Yusuf Khan.
It is alleged that the DCP (narcotics) had tapped the phone of Kumar to expose the wrongdoings of the special branch department of the Delhi police.
Kumar had sought the direction of the court for registration of a criminal case against Delhi police commissioner, Union home secretary and other officials for tapping his phone illegally.
