Groups: Cops on the wrong trac
PETALING JAYA: Malaysians from all walks of life are dismayed that the police seem more interested to uncover the person who took the controversial video clip of a naked Chinese woman doing ear squats, rather than investigating the way the woman was treated and humiliated before a policewoman.

The Star was inundated with calls from the public who pressed for the force to focus on the way the woman was treated and humiliated before a policewoman at the Petaling Jaya headquarters.

In the wake of the outrage, however, Selangor police chief Datuk Yahya Udin said last night ... Read more

Cause found for ethics complai

OAK HILL -- The State Commission on Ethics has found probable cause against City Commissioner Charlie Dean for threatening a former police chief.

Dean now can either request an administrative hearing or opt to settle with the ethics commission, which would include a fine.

The ethics complaint against Dean was filed in October 2005 by former Police Chief Walter Zalisko. He also filed four other ethics complaints but no probable cause was found.

However, an advocacy report on which the ethics commission based its decision stated Dean violated a state statute on misuse of a public position in threatening the chief's job after an officer went into Dean's business and notified his wife that someone was illegally parked in front of the store.

Zalisko said Dean "stomped" into the police department and demanded to know why a police officer had yelled at his wife.

Zalisko said in his complaint Dean began shouting, "You work for me . . . You better watch out, I'm going to work hard to get rid of you."

Zalisko's job was terminated "without cause" in March 2006 with a 3-2 vote of the commission. Dean, Vice Mayor Darla Lauer and Commissioner Darry Evans supported the firing.
