Police chief gets earful at to
Princeton Borough Police Chief Anthony Federico said he arrived Monday night at the First Baptist Church expecting to field basic inquiries about how his department functions.
Instead, he faced often accusatory questions and comments, most of which stemmed from a recent incident at Princeton High School.
In September, borough police officers removed four black students from class. Police said witnesses placed the four students at the scene of an earlier assault on Franklin Avenue, and the 14- and 15-year-olds were subsequently charged with complicity to robbery.

AIG warns policemen on partisa

Assistant Inspector-General of Police in-charge of Zone 9, Mr. John Hamza Ahmadu, has advised serving policemen in Abia State Police Command who want to indulge in partisan politics and corruption to resign honourably than be disgraced by the anti-corruption squad he has put in place.

Ahmadu, who was on a familiarisation tour of Abia State Police Command recently told officers and men at the Central Police Station that he was determined to stamp out corruption in the zone, and stressed that the vice was eroding public confidence in the police.

The AIG assumed duty at Zone 9 in August. He was transferred from Zone 8 with headquarters in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Cautioning policemen in Abia to abstain from partisan politics, Ahmadu said. “If you want to be a politician, please hand over your uniform to me or the Inspector-General of Police and go and join them (politicians).

“As long as you are a policemen still serving fully, you should be out of politics.”

“You should be seen to give a fair and level playing ground. INEC is looking up to us to give them our fullest co-operation. None of us should be found wanting.”

The AIG, who expressed sadness that corruption was still rearing its head at all levels of the force, urged policemen in the command to shun the vice.

“If you are caught, don’t plead having aged mother and father. That will not be accepted because we never sent you. Explore internal avenues for example, the Police Community Bank, to help yourself.”

“You do not need to go to the road to extort money from people. I have set up a monitoring unit. I will not spare any person that is caught because I am not under any obligation, neither to the Force Headquarters nor even in my house to give anybody money.”

He urged the policemen to work with their conscience to make his tenure in Zone 9 a different era, better than others.

“Be a policeman Nigeria will be proud of,” he charged them.

Ahmadu also charged them to be alert, and pointed out that he would personally lead patrols in Umuahia, and added that all senior police officers, including the Commissioner of Police, would be involved to make the state capital safe, especially during this ember months.

He also advised the public against bringing trivial matter to the zone, stressing cases could only be taken to the zone if the State commands failed to address them.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police for Abia, Samson Wuda, who was represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jacob Oshiomogho had pledged the loyalty and co-operation of the State Police Command to the new AIG. Oshiomogho appealed to him to tackle the problem of accommodation facing the command.

The AIG also called on the Deputy Governor of the State, Chief Acho Nwakanma, and pledged that the zone would work closely with the state to tackle security issues and thanked the state government for its various assistance to the zone.

In his speech, Nwakanma, reiterated that the government regard security as a basics responsibility, and assured that government would always do its best to ensure security at all times.
