Wagga police pair may not face
The New South Wales Police Commissioner has hinted charges may not eventuate against two Wagga police officers, from the state's south, who were under investigation by the Police Integrity Commission (PIC).
The PIC last year recommended charges against Senior Constable Chris Jackson for alleged brutality against Allan Hathaway and lying to the commission.
It also recommended duty officer Tom Murphy be charged with perverting the course of justice.
Seven months later, there have been no charges, with Inspector Murphy continuing in his management role and Constable Jackson suspended.
Commissioner Ken Moroney says the Director of Public Prosecutions has a lot of evidence to analyse before anything can proceed.
"I'm sure that there is an enormous amount of evidence with which they have to go through in order to decide whether or not a prosecution is to be brought in the first instance," he said.
"Once that decision is made it will be conveyed to the officers concerned and that prosecution will ensue, or alternatively a prosecution may not ensue. That's part of the democratic and legal process to which we all subscribe."
