Ethics Board Fines Former Opel

A former Opelousas police officer facing criminal charges has been fined by the state ethics committee.

Retired Major Ronnie Trahan has been ordered to pay $1500 for signing Opelousas Police Department checks to his wife for printing services provided by her company, "Especially for You Printing."

Trahan's wife has been fined $2500.

Government officials are banned from approving public dollars for family members.

The ethics charges against Trahan and his wife's company were brought to light last year from a state investigation into alleged money mishandling at OPD.
