Police Report

STATE COLLEGE -- A borough police officer under investigation by state police for allegedly stalking an ex-girlfriend and vandalizing her car on several occasions has resigned from the State College Police Department.

No charges had been filed as of Thursday against former Officer Jeffrey Chiston, who handed in his resignation June 30. Trooper Brian Wakefield, who is investigating allegations that Chiston was caught by surveillance cameras vandalizing his ex-girlfriend's car outside of her Port Matilda residence, including puncturing its tires, was not available for comment Thursday.

A protection-from-abuse order that was granted the woman by Centre County Court this month prevents Chiston from carrying a gun or entering the State College Municipal Building for two years.

"He's no longer on the job," State College Police Chief Thomas King confirmed Thursday. Due to the resignation, an internal investigation into Chiston's alleged actions was discontinued, the chief said.
