Man seeks compo over Wagga pol

The man at the centre of a damning Police Integrity Commission (PIC) inquiry into Wagga Wagga police is seeking financial compensation for his injuries.

Allan Frederick Hathaway has begun civil action against the New South Wales Police Service in the Supreme Court civil registry.

Two officers face potential criminal charges over injuries suffered by Mr Hathaway during his arrest in Wagga, in southern NSW, just over three years ago.

Senior Constable Chris Jackson was suspended at Christmas after the PIC recommended he be charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and giving false and misleading evidence.

The PIC found that a knife was planted at the scene of Mr Hathaway's arrest "almost certainly by police".

Wagga police Inspector Tom Murphy was also adversely named by the PIC.

He remains on duty, with the Director of Public Prosecutions yet to decide whether it will act on the recommendation he face a charge of perverting the course of justice.
