ACP chargesheeted for taking b

New Delhi, Feb 16 : The CBI today chargesheeted an Assistant Commissioner of Delhi Police for allegedly accepting bribe from a subordinate officer.

In the chargesheet filed before Special Judge Sunil Gaur, the investigating agency charged ACP Hawa Singh of offences under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to the chargesheet, complainant Sub-Inspector Harminder Singh, who was specially assigned to issue cracker licences, was allegedly approached by the accused, his superior officer stationed at the PG Cell, with a demand to "share" with him the "collection" received from licence applicants.

Singh refused and subsequently went on a sick leave for 20 days. Following which, the accused filed a show cause notice against Singh in another matter with a view to harass him, the chargesheet claimed.

Aggrieved, Singh lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on November 9, 2004.

As a part of the plan to trap the accused, Singh allegedly met him and agreed to hand over Rs 20,000 as the ACP's "share in the collection against issuance of cracker licences".

ACB also recorded a phone conversation between Singh and the ACP during which they decided to meet at the latter's office where the complainant was supposed to give Rs 5,000 as first instalment of the accused's "share", CBI claimed in the chargesheet.

The accused was caught as he was receiving the money from the complainant on November 9, 2004 at his office by a waiting team of ACB sleuths, the agency said
