Cleveland Police Lieutenant Eddie Jackson was convicted Friday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court on nine felony counts related to the misappropriation of funds.

Jackson was convicted of one count of Theft in Office and eight counts of Tampering with Records after detectives determined that he collected pay for hours not worked totaling $7,089.99.

The investigation of Jackson, a 23-year veteran and formerly the officer in charge of the Office of Professional Standards, covered an eight month period from November 2005 through June 2006. The investigation was conducted by the Overtime Review Unit in the Integrity Control Section of the Division of Police with assistance from the Internal Affairs Unit.

"I intend to immediately convene a disciplinary hearing at which time Lt. Jackson will be terminated from employment with the Department of Public Safety," Safety Director Martin Flask said. "His conduct was unacceptable and through the professional investigation of the Cleveland Division of Police he will be held accountable."

Jackson is the second ranking officer from the Office of Professional Standards convicted for claiming pay for hours which he did not work. Other investigations are pending with two scheduled for trial in the coming months.
