UK: Are the police on your sid

Police are targeting the law-abiding middle classes over minor misdemeanours in order to meet government targets, according to a new report.

The think-tank Civitas argues that officers are having to prioritise Home Office targets instead of serving the public and are becoming increasingly alienated from ordinary people as a result.

Political interference means that incidents which might previously have been regarded as innocuous are now treated as crimes, while the public find officers to be rude and unresponsive, the report says.
